I used to love the Newsagent which was by the War Memorial. There was a guy there who refused to do the photocopying for you as the machine gave off dodgy rays!

The worst customer service used to be the BP garage, but they seem to have got a bit better. I haven't seen the surly older woman for a while. Dolly at Leicester Road has her grumpy moments, but I can't say I blame her with some of the people she gets.
The best customer service used to be in the art materials shop on Station Road. It's such a pity that they closed - a victim of the roadworks' effect on trade, I think.

Best: Those wonderful people behind the counter at St.Anne's Pharmacy and the Pet Shop in Malling Street
Worst: Boots. What an utter shambles.
'Spose that's the difference between a friendly local service and a predatory, asset stripping, American conglomerate.
p.s.....that's before I've mentioned my experiences of train travel.

They start off quite chipper and then end up all sulky Sue. I was in there the other day and this girl behind the till couldn’t have been any moodier if she tried.
Best is probably the woman in the pharmacy opposite St. Andrews surgery

Worst.I sat inside the Bus Station waiting room on Friday awaiting my bus and the foul language that was being used in the downstairs serving area/kitchen was disgusting.Swearing all the time, tales of their drug use and seeing one of the staff dipping his fingers and licking them whilst carrying the food to and from from the upstairs venue will stop me buying any food from them. The female on duty that day played no part in the behaviour I witnessed. Best. Lewes High Street Dental Practice. I alwaye leave there with a smile.

Yes the lady in crumbs is brilliant. Such a nice decent person. This is how it should be done. The woman in the vets constantly up selling really annoys me.

The worst has to be smoketronic, selling a defective item and then refusing the replace or refund. Also not shy to have a good old argument over their legal responsibility to do so. Let's put it this way, 20 minutes arguing with me and the item was replaced, really unpleasant experience avoid the place.

Boots is a preditory EU company registered in Luxembourg.

Is that a bit of anti EU nonsence about Boots there? You are right about them being a preditory company but they are not European, they are American.
They are Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. based in Illanois, USA.

Worst:
Boots - several customers waiting to be served at the pharmacy counter, while no fewer than 4 staff were chatting and laughing in the pharmacy itself
Waterstones - staff stopping halfway through ringing up your books to attend to customers wanting some more milk for their coffee or another cupcake and often rude and offhand when asked for assistance (other branches of Waterstones seem to offer a very good service)
Best: St Anne's pharmacy and Ringmer pet shop. Unfailingly pleasant and helpful. Ringmer cafe staff are also very efficient and friendly - maybe Ringmer is just full of nice people.

@EarlofLewes The art shop in Station Street was called TashTori and yes they did close in that location (because their lease was up) but they re-located to Riverside - upstairs almost simultaneously and continue to trade from there...

Worst for me is Fuego Lounge which is unfathomably busy considering the wait you can have even for a simple coffee, the bizarre ordering system that let's them keep staff numbers and skills low, and the quality of the food. Been twice, never again.
Best is Reeves. Always fantastic.
