ESCC have a scheme to stop vehicles parking on School Hill, I though the doubling of the parking fees has already done that.

It's part of a mini Holland scheme for widening pavements and discouraging car use, which on the face of it sounds like a good idea. The trouble is that it will discourage trade and result in even more small businesses closing. I'm sure Amazon will be very grateful though, the lockdown has seen their profits soaring already, it's been the monopoly capitalist's dream.

They'll kill the town at this rate.
I'm doing more and more of my shopping in Haywards Heath. It's much more compact, and level, so doesn't knacker my dodgy knees and back. It has a much bigger, better-stocked Boots, the Waterstones is better, there are some nice independents, a Robert Dyas and an M&S, parking's easy and cheap as chips and it has a massive Sainsburys for food shopping. In the last few months, I've found I can never get all my food shopping in Waitrose or Tesco and end up having to go to both.
It only takes 20 minutes to get there when you're already on the northern edge of town, and it takes 10 minutes to get into the centre of Lewes even on a good day, so it's a no-brainer really.

Two thirds of the population say that it is dangerous to cycle on UK roads. If we are to encourage more people to use bikes instead of cars, or indeed to improve access for mobility scooters ridden by the elderly or disabled, the pavements need to be widened, and cycle lanes installed more widely. There really is no excuse for not doing it. Parking in Tesco's, and using the bus to get up the hill, then walk down, is one option for those who want to park in the High Street. And driving 10 miles to go shopping in soulless Haywards Heath is not an attractive prospect.

Two thirds of the population? It seems that an even greater proportion believe we need to take ludicrous precaution to protect ourselves from a virus that causes flu like symptoms,or none at all in over 95%of those infected which over 99.6% survive. This is the ostensible reason for the barriers~ social distancing, which even the mildest breeze makes a joke of.

@Ferret, driving 10 miles to HH is infinitely preferable to the slightly shorter (in distance) drive into Brighton, when you can't get what you need in Lewes. It's a pleasant trip compared to the drive from one side of Lewes to the other, and the extra fuel cost is largely offset by the infinitely cheaper parking.
Ditto buses. The last time I got on a bus, it was a flat fare of £3.20, just from the Pelham to the top of the Nevill.
My arthritic, ligament damaged knee is costing me a bloody fortune.
