Bacombe Nightmare

I heard about some flooding this morning on the TV but when I drove from Ringmer there was no warning on the main road at Clayhill so I assumed that all was well on the road through Barcombe.
Wrong - road closed at the Mills.
Come on LDC/Highways - let us know in advance that there's a problem! Put some signs on the min junction!

I think you will find that it is ESCC's responsibility for road signs, not LDC.

That's why I mentioned Highways!

They've stuck signs on Anchor Lane (road closed) and Spithurst Road (flood). Needless to say Anchor Lane is not closed and Spithurst Road is not flooded. So, everything pretty normal here.

Landport rd was flooded last time. Yes there is a lot of water on the fields but have seen it much worse. Ditches have now been cleared so with luck this will help a little.

One really wonders if ESCC can get any less competent. Perhaps we should run a book on how long it will be befroe they fail to get the gritting lorries out on a night when the roads freeze.

I think that would be today with the crash on the icy roads in alfriston !

I have that great footage of their gritter accelerating up School Hill and nearly mowing down the War Memorial when it snowed at the beginning of the year. I grew up in two metres of snow and must say that was the most incompetent thing I've ever seen when it comes down to gritting. T0ssers! And don't get me started when they had the roadworks past the Esso a month ago or so. What's the point of a Road Closed sign right at the Cuilfail roundabout when the traffic is diverted back into Brooks Lane? Not to mention that two vehicles could have easily gone past the 5 metres of roadworks or so at the same time. And what about the tunnel closure? How long did it take them to put up a sign at Kingston saying that Cuilfail is closed if there ever was a sign at all? How braindead do you have to be to qualify for employment with ESCC Highways? Is there a special breeding programme?

I don't believe there is a breeding programme, merely an obligation to have a lobotomy on taking up an appointment with them.

HIGHWAYS are a bunch of numpties - the junctions in Lewes take the biscuit and some of their rural stuff is ridiculous - contractors walk all over them!
