BBC Philip coverage

I turned on TV yesterday to watch pointless to find it had been replaced on both TV channels by the same programme about Philip. What is the point of that? The Queen likes pointless, she might have been looking forward to it distracting her after what must have been a hard day. I realise that complaining about pointless being cancelled is up there with classic first world problems but it is another example of the usual pro establishment right wing bias of the BBC. They really could have just put their tributes on one of their channels. Some of us would have been able to express their grief for a 99 year old man by switching to the channel with the tributes on. Others could have started putting their lives back together by watching pointless.

4 out of the top 5 channels showing the same thing nearly all day. Somewhat excessive.
Got up this morning and the BBC is still at it.

I was quite fond of the guy. But Boris is, of course, behind the serious over-coverage; it is a welcome distraction from travel and hospitality going bust, blood clotting, vaccine supply shortages, academics scared at the lockdown relaxations ... Need I go on?

yes absolutely agree with IDM, distraction from what is actually going on in this country ATM...not sure but think we have "herd immunity "now so why are we still locked up in our flats/houses?...i also felt great respect for Philip but they are doing blanket coverage on every channel since friday..watching Netflix.

Yes, its a very good distraction from all of the things mentioned above, and also a little spat going on in Northern Ireland no thanks to the added and unnecessary complications of Brexit.

Its amazing how there are profound consequences for appointing certain leaders/characters, and going ahead with gigantic political mistakes for the sake of pride. One may think we'd learn and try to do the right things....

HS2 springs to mind. What a waste of money and environment.

HS2 is part of an existing European rail network plan, like regionalisation it will quietly go ahead. Brexit is a false front to divert attention. Have you seen the old photos of Phil the Greek at pre war Nazi rally's with his relatives? Great guy.

And all to celebrate a parasite who has never done a day's productive wor in his life. His uncle, Mountbatten, was a friend of Edward VIII until he abdicated, when he shifted his 'loyalty'to George VI and determined his nephew should ingratiate his way into the family. Thus 'Mountbatten' (originally Battenberg) as united with Wndsor (originally Saxe-Cobrug-Gotha) and the 'Prince' followed his adulterous career while acting as consort' to the monarch. These people really are something to behold.

I was aware the Duke of Edinburgh attended a family members funeral in Nazi Germany as a youngster. I'm no fan of the monarchy or the DoE, but I'm not sure we can pin him too hard to the Nazi Party, given that he fought in WW2 against them.

Yes I suppose that as a teenager he would have just gone along with the family line with his relation Bernhard of the Netherlands who was pretty enthusiastic. It's his depopulation thing that worried me, a bit elitist for my taste.

I also think that someone who had 4 children of their own isn't really in a position to speak about the impact of population growth.
Or is it only poor, brown-skinned people that need to restrict family size?

Have you read the other posts basil? I see no post that can in any way be described as forelock tugging. As for your post local, I didn't think there were until your comment.
I presume neither of you have anything to say about the actual thread itself.

TP 11 Apr 22-53. If HS2 really is European it doesn't seem to have been organised that way. Even before Brexit there were internal UK rows about the cities to be served and the routes. Also, we appear to have got away with not bringing HS1 up to HS2 standard. All the rows I have seen have been about the affordability and benefits of the scheme on this island, not about improved Euro-connection. It might still go ahead, but it isn't quietly at the moment.

It turns out Boris didn't need the DofE after all. Main channels with non-stop coverage of Floyd trial and European Superleague. The last obviously so important, with PM and royal comments!

Well, you're certainly one of 'em, IDM.
Blaming Boris for the extent of BBC coverage for starters – have you forgotten that the BBC got absolutely slated for under-doing the Queen Mother death coverage?
And your oh-so-superior "of course" reveals how you think you're right.
Hint – you should go abroad when the Queen's time comes, or you'll explode with conspiracy theories and self-indignation.

One of the problems with this place is that one does not get any clue (by facial expression, intonation or suppressed laughter) whether something is really serious or a joke. If Loco99 24 Apr 23-00 really is serious, I suggest that (s)he learns the meaning of "sarcasm".
