Hi Compass. I read with interest, your post in another thread. I have always been different and have always been diagnosed with depression. However, after going to the Aspergers uk site and taking the 50 question test - I scored 42 - I need some advice please on what to do next, if you can spare the time. Thanking you in anticipation......

Following the diagnosis of my grandson having Aspergers Syndrone I noticed that some of his behavior mirrored things I had done for years without thinking it strange behavior so I arranged to take the test and was very surprised to find myself just four points short but did discover that I am OCD, which explained a great many things to me relating to my behavior.
Incidentally my grandson does not think his behavior as strange in any way, he thinks we are the strange people in saying that we will do things in a way that we do not. eg "jump on a bus" and "pull you socks up" when asking you to get on with it.

I'm a sufferer too , I suppose the first bit of advice I would give to you is to ask your GP to refer you for an assessment to ascertain if you actually have Aspergers or another condition. Prof Critchley and his team in Brighton carry out assessments but you must be referred. Unfortunately in the main the medical profession know nothing about Aspergers and often mistake the symptoms for mental health issues. Once you have a formal diagnosis it is far easier to access support, however given that ESCC have to cut 20 million from their social care budget , even then support is not guaranteed. Only people deemed to have a substantial or critical need are eligible for support, and even then are expected to pay a contribution towards the cost of their support. Anyway I digress , It's not all bad I may be able to offer further advice and or support and signpost you to further services . If you leave an email address I will contact you.
