Nearly two weeks later and still no lights , it would seem that somebody's experimenting with doing without them and the traffic does seem to flow ok but twice this week during rush hour I've seen people standing on the central reservation waiting to cross and with the traffic approaching from the west at speed the task looks at best perilous , will it take an accident before some safety measure is put in place for pedestrians .

Motorists call them streetlights: the National Park calls them light pollution. Very off-putting for bats.

Whilst we're on the subject, what's going on with the small field on the left just before you go under the bridge to kingston? Have the burger people bought it?

The burger people use it as overflow parking, so I presume they rent it. But that place is making some serious money (my speculation), so they may have bought it!

The queues to get out of town in the evenings have been terrible. I'm assuming it's because of the lights (or absence of them)

I will find out what is happening. I know road works are due here, but as it is Highways England and not ESCC that is responsible for Ashcombe I have not been notified about the current chaos.
As a county councillor the tail back to the Tunnel and beyond is my concern.
Hope to report back soon.

It's not the burger car park, that is the next section of field along, it is where Virgin are storing cables, machinery, etc whilst they are messing up pavements in the town.

I watched one car run into the back of another this week. I think it's a bit of a hazard. Has been a little delay, but I think it won't be long before someone takes a chance and there's an accident.

So much better use this road a lot. Some people just need to know how to drive

Traffic lights on roundabouts always seems odd to me mixing two concepts of traffic regulation. I know that as a consequence of the Shoreham plane crash the lights there were out for weeks and the traffic never flowed better.

@Daily angst - I used to commute to work via that roundabout before they introduced the traffic lights and it was far worse. The traffic lights made a big difference and probably prevented quite a few accidents. I can't wait for them to come back into service.

Leaving aside the safety issues for pedestrians and the problems faced by the people leaving Lewes my journey time has reduced by 10 minutes (on average) since the lights went out. As with all things there are losers and there are winners.
The whole roundabout and its approaches need to be redesigned as traffic does not flow properly when the lights are working or not. It should be made smaller to straighten the path through it to aid flow.

Its really bad trying to get round the Kingston roundabout from the direction of Lewes Prison to head towards Brighton as there aren't many opportunities to cross due to not many people are turning into Lewes coming from the eastbound direction. Tried going through the Cuilfail tunnel and turn right at the Southerham roundabout - just as bad due to lack of roundabout etiquette. Hurry up and bring back the lights

It's a roundabout for Christ sake , has everyone forgotten how to use them. Since the lights have been out there is no tailback to falmer.

When are the trafficlights going to be working again, as it will cause a serious accident soon.
