Another ludicrous analogy.

Kronic's earlier comparison between football matches and bonfire is facile and bizarre.
Firstly - football matches are between two groups of fans who pay to attend
Bonfire is available to each and everybody who fancies a free night out with no loyalty to the town or it's traditions.
Secondly - alcohol is controlled at football matches. At bonfire any out of town nutter with a 2L bottle of pop roams around causing trouble.
Thirdly - the fourteen arrests were for fireworks and drunk and disorderly.
At football, the arrests are for GBH, ABH and racist chanting.
Fourthly - the injuries were almost entirely scrapes, bumps and St John's.
Football has sustained some considerably more serious damage.
And lastly - when football goes bad, it is ugly, violent and hateful.
A punch up in the Volley because of an ex cannot be compared to 200 Crystal Palace fans and riot police.
Grow up. We know you hate bonfire, but stop letting your immaturity show so clearly.
I love football. I'm a rook. You're a twat.

There are some good points brought up here but they are totally invalidated by the puerile conclusion. I'm a rook. You're a twat. Now who above the age of 10 is going to listen to someone who says things like that? The crowning irony is the advice to "stop letting your immaturity show so clearly"! I give up.

I agree. It was childish, but I was irritated that a football fan should make such a ridiculous comparison. It does football no favours.
I love both bonfire and football, but I am not proud of football's extremes or excesses.
Bonfire is exceptionally well managed, good tempered and with a few very regrettable incidents amazingly safe.
The riot police outside Waitrose when Palace come to the Amex is a pretty rotten advert for the beautiful game.
But if my use of the word "twat" weakens my argument, then I withdraw it.
