I can not believe what a total shambles this place is. They are missing out big time, they could make an absolute fortune there. The boats are a brilliant idea and work well, the service and the food are something else, I would not rush back there. This thing about not allowing picnics is fair enough in their grounds but in the adjacent farmers field I can not see why they are making such a fuss. I saw quite a lot of families with small children picnicking in that field this weekend. I had roast beef, queued for 30 minutes, waited another 40 minutes for it to arrive. The meat was full of fat and grissel, the yorkshire pudding was burnt, the veg was not what you would have with a roast dinner. The veg was obviously something that had been left over from the barbeque that had been chopped up finely ready to go on skewers, oh the roast potatoes were the only good thing about it. The dog ate most of it, which cost me £10! The cleanliness is another story, I don't think I need to elaborate anymore..........

It has ever been thus - or a variation on the theme. I recall the days when it was run by a chap in a panama hat and his wife (Mummy) who spent most of their time telling their customers what they couldn't do. It may well be that the current management is related. How sad that the excellent Brown's Boatyard at Barcombe is now a mere memory.

I think the current owner learnt most of what he knows from the former owners you talk about, the very alcoholic Bovey-Whites.

In response to empty.....Bovey-Whites were not the past owners, the past owner was Mike Harris i worked for mike for 3 yrs,we ran a profitable happy business and we all worked as a team and enjoyed serving everyone....walkers,children dogs, kayakers,et al!,and it was a pleasure. Its so sad that Simon Thomas has upset so many of you and seeing as though all ex staff are barred i can not see for myself how awful things have become.

The (very alcoholic) Bovey Whites were past (long-term) Anchor Inn owners. Mike Harris owned it for a few years in between the B-Ws and Simon Thomas. The Bovey-Whites were quite bizarre, but not as bizarre as Simon Thomas, who used to work there as a youngster when the B-W's owned it.
