I'm visiting a friend in Shanghai next week and he's asked me to bring a bag of mixed spice. I've looked everywhere and can only find small containers of 50gms or so. Iwould like to take over 250gms or more. Any ideas at such a late notice?
Many thanks

Tip five small containers into one big bag? Probably not very helpful, I know ...

Must be one of those bulk buy Chinese outlets around here surely ? Else, CH's answer is the best bet.

Google "mixed spice 250" and click on the shopping tab (realfoods.co.uk. have 500gm packs for £4.40). If you've left it too late to buy on line try Yum Yum oriental market in Sydney Street Brighton.

Thanks for your suggestions. I did try Yum Yums, Taj, and Infinity Foods. No joy I'm afraid.
Thanks anyway.

To be honest, even 50gm containers will be on the large side, since the flavour of ground spices decays so quickly. In fact that might very well be why retailers don't sell larger packs.
I presume you've tried Julian Graves in the precinct?

Taking spice to China sounds a bit like taking coals to Newcastle, quite honestly.

Ha ha! You'd be surprised what you can't get in China. My friend has lived there for 20 years and somethings you just can't get.
I had no problem getting a large amount of spice before to take over. And yes it does look suspicously like a certain drug!! But success!! Lansdown Health in Cliffe buy all their spices in bulk and I bought a large bag from them today. Should've tried there first.

Hi Bastien
Do you know something I don't with Chinese customs officials? Genuine question because I didn't think there would be a problem.
Thanks

I was just thinking if it looks suspicious it could be hauled in and you with it.
