At 12 I had a 2 paper rounds, one in the morning before school delivering the daily newspapers, and one after school delivering the Evening Argus. At the weekend I had a milk round with a local dairy, and by the time I was 14, I gave up the milk round and had a weekend job in a local supermarket instead. Add homework in to that pile, plus a bit of socialising at youth clubs, I never had the time to be bored. All that without computers, tablets or iPhones.

Sounds good. Well done for doing that. I don't think there are a lot of jobs for 12 year olds around these days though.

Kids are just as entreprenerial but they prefer trading online and creating stuff.
Lots of kids jobs are done by adult volunteers nowadays.

Sorry Neville Lady, I didn't mean to appear supercilious earlier, and yes you are probably right in that there aren't the opportunities for teenagers to have a little part-time job to earn a little money for themselves. Definitely tougher out there today in the jobs market. I took great satisfaction from earning enough to buy things for myself back in the late 60's, early 70's, and not pester my poor mother who was trying to raise 3 kids single handedly. Good luck with the Cadets though, I'm sure either or will help alleviate any boredom.
