They quoted to my wife, and I didn;t have time to check - although I did drop the vehicle off and asked how much the part was - they refused to tell me. They simply said "they had agreed a price with my wife".
The charged 250£ for one section of exhaust - I found the whole thing stainless steel for £280 - the part they replaced was £50. We could have go on for ages with the exhaust as it was...we had driven it like that for weeks anyway. Feel so stupid and obviously will never go back to these cowboys again..

That's what you get with these places I'm afraid. A while ago my Sis in Law used one like it and she had to verbally fight with them to release the car " because the brakes were badly worn". Took it to a small independent garage - nothing wrong at all !

In future, go next door to North Street Garage. I have used them for some years now; mainly for tyres. They are quite happy to discuss things, and ring around for the best quote on materials.

Quick fit in Uckfield actually offer a pretty good service for tyres and exhausts given they're a chain. Friendly, informative and reasonably priced.

Quick Fit In Newhaven quoted me nearly double what my regular garage charged for replacing a section of exhaust.
I always get my tyres from Arrow in Newhaven. Very reasonable and efficient.

Arrow weren't very competitive when I last wanted tyres. I always shop around and there are always deals on the 'net.
North Street garage appears a bit rough and ready but seems to be run by decent blokes. I go there regularly and no complaints.

Arrow I find very good but not the cheapest can't have it all , many years ago I use to supply theses big outfits ,almost guarantee an after the morning school run call , from them to quote for virtualy every brake part on some 12 year old fiesta , they frightened the bejesus out of mum saying it's not safe for the pick up but we can get it done . 3 hours and half the cars value later , mums happy , dads furious , but the garage has done half is weeks target by lunchtime Monday , a wicked world in fast fits . Just my experience .

Absolutely right In The Trade. Women generally are not so familiar with car mechanicals and are easy targets. A few years ago Kwik Fit told me my shock absorbers were leaking oil badly and needed changing and we're in stock. I replied that it was odd as they were gas shocks. I smiled and walked out. Never been there since.

Nothing rough and ready about North Street Garage - just a normal decent workshop staffed by blokes who know what they're about with owners that couldn't be more helpful
If you want central heating and a skinny latte in the waiting room go to Mercedes
For a fair price, good standard work and the occasional cup of tea in a mug North Street can't be bettered

There's something about one of the ATS blokes that makes me unable to trust a word he says. I have no proof, but every cell in my body doubts what he says. We are lucky to have a couple of very good independent garages in town; we should use them.

I use Bob Govas who works out of North Street. Lovely bloke, really efficient and reasonably priced. I've yet to find him charge much more for a part than I could have picked one up on eBay for. Also he spotted that my cam belt was about to go, saving me having to buy a new car (It was literally about to fall off, sounded normal to me).

Flomar Garage is also very good - I've been using them for three years and am very pleased with the service and pricing. Also, unlike some places, they phone you when your car's ready.

Have used North Street for years, recently had a couple of guests who had worrying noises from their cars. North Street diagnosed the faults and adpvised one to go back to his local garage but it was safe to carry on and the other to go back to hire company as it was dangerous, they didn't charge, though they had the potential to.

I'm pleased to say we had a very different experience . We had a puncture on Christmas Eve and arrived , unbooked as arts were about to close. They mended our puncture, and refused to take any payment - because it was Christmas !!! The two members of staff couldn't have been more helpful !
