So someone has a splenic injury injury from a late tackle in Rugby Union. And claims £500k damages!
Seriously??
Rugby is a high contact even collision sport. Injuries happen.
If this is going to be the norm the game will die and a lot of good things will go with it.
Its not a sport for everyone, but it instills a lot of good values and if we end up with all sports being destroyed by someone chancing their arm at a big payout then sport is dead. And for those who say 'Good' our kids will be dead a generation later from obesity, diabetes and the rest...

Touch rugby is safer. You can play by walking with the ball not running.
Also if it rain best not to play. Stay at home.

You say that rugby instils good values and I agree but this case seems to hang on whether good values were being exhibited. It is alleged that the tackle which caused the injury was very late and maliciously intended. I see no reason why the injured player shouldn't then try to get redress. It should lead to better values in the future with players thinking harder about their behaviour, whatever the verdict.

I played rugby when I was younger and I enjoyed it. But I do wonder what these 'good values' are.

Respect for referee; not swearing ; not spitting; not feigning injury to get another player sent off; knocking seven bells out of each other but still having a beer together after you’ve left the field. Basically all the things football doesn’t teach.
