"Heated" Debate Between Scientists Forced Boris Johnson To Act On Coronavirus
“This is going to get much, much worse, very quickly, both in terms of deaths and the economy,” a cabinet minister told BuzzFeed News. “It will not be long before we are getting numbers like Italy. I don’t think people realise that yet.”

Well... The Government didn't realize that until very recently.
Never forget that this is a catastrophe that was foreseeable for at least 6 weeks. Early response would have limited the economic damage to the point of saving billions in bailouts. Being an island, there is no reason we are in a worse situation than Taiwan, other than gross government negligence.

With all this talk of catastrophe and crisis it might be a good idea to to reflect for a moment what the media thrives on~ just that. Thousands of people die of the flu every year, it's a catastrophe to them and their families of course but we are used to it and don't get in a panic when the flu season comes round. The media tells us were having a health crisis not forgetting a climate crisis. It keeps them in a job. Oh yes,I forgot the economic crisis. Are you seeing a pattern here?

Wherever it is, it's not brainwashed progressive la-la land. It's a place where people think for themselves, sometimes getting it wrong, sometimes right, far away from consensus think. There's plenty of room there and everyone's welcome.

So far Coronavirus has led to under 14 thousand deaths
Every normal DAY 150 thousand people die and 250 thousand babies are born so thats 100 tousand more humans on the planet EVERY DAY.

So let's say CV has been going for 3 months that's roughly 30 days so since this outbreak began there have been roughly 3 million people added and CV has taken 14 thousand

So we are still 2,986,000 people up on this time 3 months ago

Are we humans the more dangerous virus to this planet perhaps.

I've heard that tosh too many times. If that's your own original thought and you believe it with all your heart and soul you know what you can do. I think youre a poser spreading a malicious and very negative meme. If there's any justification for censorship your post qualifies for it.

What are you saying Tom? One post you are saying that you think it is not much worse than flu and then when Dave appears to agree with you, you accuse him of talking tosh. A whole town is waiting on your verdict Tom. You don't want people thinking that you don't actually read other posts or know what you are talking about do you Tom?

Ah yes... The Lewes Forum doesn't like facts. Some less than others (TP... apt initials, I might add).
True: on average 9500 people die in the UK per week. In Summer around 9000 in Winter around 10000. In a winter with an aggressive seasonal flu that can rise to 17000 per week.
But that is with a large number of people falling sick (over 20 percent). We are already seeing the numbers shoot up, with less than 0.1 percent infected. Before the week is over it will be over 1000. The former WHO director is already pointing out that London will be worse than Wuhan.
Personally, I think there is a silver lining: Convidiots who just don't get it are more likely to die. So possibly Darwin will help us all. :-D

Nev, I was annoyed by the "people are terrible" rubbish he was spouting. The eugenicists have been pushing that line for ever and making up statistics to prove it. See Malthus. They're mostly the hyper wealthy, their technocrats and useful idiots who repeat things they think will impress others. I looked into the beginnings of the WHO some time ago and oddly enough a lot of it's founders had been members of the eugenics society. Hitler gave it a somewhat unsavoury reputation so they changed the name. Bill Gates father was a big eugenicist as was Julian Huxley who started UNESCO. Thinking about these massive NGOs, we haven't heard much about the EU in relation to corona virus have we? That bunch of parasites have been rather useless, leaving it up to national governments when the sh*t hits the fan.

I've seen quite a lot of convincing evidence to suggest that humans haven't been very good for the other inhabitants of the planet Tom. Possibly interesting information on eugenics which I would need to fact check if I could be bothered and may do sometime. Not totally sure I understand it's significance here though.

TP, living up to your reputation again?
The EU is doing nothing. Other than fast tracking pharmaceutical trial, bulk purchasing PPE, ventilators and other necessities for their member states (reducing cost for the individual states while speeding up the process by minimizing paperwork) and already invested close to 100 miion in dedicated research projects.
It must suck when reality doesn't align with your hallucinations?

Don't worry, the Russians are delivering planeloads of medical supplies to Italy unlike their EU partners who are busy doing paperwork. Our brave journalists are calling the Russians sneaky and underhand.

I think you'll find they reacted after the Russians delivered on Sunday. Italians have been pleading for supplies for weeks and EU response has been less than impressive. I'm not saying Russia is great but in this instance actions speak. I'm sure most Europeans want to help Italy too. Bare in mind the EU has imposed crippling sanctions on Russia and they will suffer from the falling oil price too yet they have managed to do this.
I may be deluded but I'm not unconnected in these matters.

Well for those who don't like facts, here's an unpleasant one: yesterday, 1,427 new cases of C-19 were confirmed. That's the worst yet by a considerable margin. There are now over 8,000 confirmed cases nationally.
The total number of confirmed cases in East Sussex has gone up from 17 yesterday to 21 today.
Wonder how long it will be before the "lockdown" is reflected in lower case numbers?

I think a different tactic is needed.
Now, if everyone knew there was an expert sniper up on the rooftops just looking for the next victim, they might think again!

What would the consequences be if the economy carried on as normal. Most people will get it before a vaccine is found I would think in want case. From what I hear most people will recover from a very nasty dose of flu and not use the health service. Put all resources into protecting the vulnerable and ensuring that their illness is staggered and the NHS can cope. Less medium and long term damage to the economy.
I'm just putting it out there. I really don't know if it would the best plan. Please attack the idea if you wish but try to resist attacking me

I believe most business has stopped which will mean that it will take longer for workers to be infected as it will take a year fora vaccine to be found. By the sound of it, most people can expect to get it anyway. This will mean a year of a spiralling economy and by the time the vaccine comes we will be in serious economic trouble. In theory it seems to me that we only have to prevent a huge rush on the NHS for those at risk. These should have the lockdown and assistance while everyone else just accepts they will get ill for a while and get it over with. Business will by and large continue and only those who are at risk of dying from it are taking precautions. If this is what we are doing then I have got the wrong end of current measures but it looks to me like we are in big economic trouble and having a really crap year as well. Not even the prospect of a holiday in this country. Would it really lead to more deaths?

TP (you really need to change those initials, as sought after as the stuff may currently be), I don't think anyone needs to dream to realize you are living in a world of your own. Comparing reality to the world you a David describe is all that takes.
