Ian Marchant: One Fine Day

Newhaven-born writer and bradcaster Ian Marchant discovered his Great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather was a notable diarist from Hurstpierpoint, who was recording daily events in Sussex exactly 300 years ago. A Fine Day in Hurstpierpoint: the Diary of Thomas Marchant, 1714-1728 is a story of economic migration, civil war, fish farming, dung carrying, hangovers, high politics, low morals, suicide, madness, and lardy cake.
