Universal Dance contemporary classes are perfect for anyone wanting to improve fitness, core stability and flexibility. With Contemporary Dance studied as part of the school curriculums attending regular technique classes will aid in the learning and development of this art form; our Junior classes set students up incredibly well for dance tuition provided at Secondary schools, whilst our Senior and Senior+ classes are excellent in assisting & improving GCSE/Alevel dance grades.

Classes include techniques such as Cunningham, Graham and Release, centre, floor and travelling exercises as well as a stretch as part of the cool down. You will have time to explore your own choreographic ideas and learn routines inspired by some of the world’s greatest choreographers. NATD qualifications are also on offer to those who wish to take examinations in Grades 1-6.

In addition to our week classes, we also provide masterclasses & workshops with professional dance practitioners throughout the year. Contemporary artists we have previously worked with include Joss Arnott, Stuart Waters, Catherine Ben Abbes, Puppik Dance and Rambert.

What is Commercial Dance?! ‘Commercial’ refers to dance styles or routines that have been adapted for live or recorded performance such as TV shows, concerts, music videos, movies and obviously commercials or adverts. There are many different dance genres that can fall into the commercial bracket; street, jazz, ballet or even ballroom. Generally speaking, commercial dance is a ‘mixed bag’ of styles that are geared around entertaining and performance quality. More and more dance institutions are offering commercial classes on their timetables now as it is seen as a great skill for budding young dance professionals. UD’s class is fun, energetic, technically challenging at times but basically an excuse to dance, strut and ‘hair flick’ to the latest chart topper!
